A challenge worth supporting
At PSP Logistics London we enjoy challenges, which is why we admire those that take on the toughest challenges. So when teacher Nic Lempriere announced his ambition to take on one the world’s toughest footraces – The Sahara’s Marathon des Sables – we recognised his sprit by sponsoring him, for one of our favoured charities, Mind.
Described as “the toughest footrace on Earth” by the Discovery Channel, The Marathon des Sables is the stuff of legends.
In just six days each year participants run over 156 miles through endless dunes, over rocky jebels, and across white-hot salt plains, with temperatures regularly reaching 50 centigrade.
Nic, like every participant, had to be self-sufficient and carry all his food and equipment for the week on his back in the April race.
A truly gruelling adventure, in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, is made hard when even the water is rationed, with time penalties undermining superhuman effort for exceeding the ration.
Battling his way across this mythical landscape to finish strongly, Nic’s achievement is remarkable. All the more so, as it has been the catalyst to raise much needed funds for Mind, the mental health charity.
Having had personal experience of mental health issues, Nic funded the race by tutoring on top of teaching, so that every penny donated goes to Mind itself.
Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems, lobbies on their behalf and provides services such as supported housing, support schemes, care homes and drop-in.
The Marathon des Sables may be over, but you can still sow your support for Nic on JustGiving page – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tranquilo
