Felixstowe strike confirmed
Christmas strike action on the 27th and 28th December has been voted for overwhelmingly at the port of Felixstowe in a dispute over outsourcing.
Trade union Unite claims the Port of Felixstowe’s move to transfer 110 engineers to external contractors will become a trend for the entire workforce and plans to ballot their entire membership at the port over the outsourcing issue.
NOTE – WE DO NOT EXPECT this action TO impede port operations, but that MAY change if UNITE’S MEMBERS VOTE to support strike action.
The engineers, employed by port operator Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company, voted 98% to take industrial action over the plan and will hold stoppages from 07:00 to 19:00 GMT on 27 and 28 December.
Unite claims to have 1,900 members among an approximate 3,000 workers at the port and will be balloting their entire membership at the port over the outsourcing issue.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed.
HOLIDAY OPENING – The port is due to cease operations at 19:00 on 24th December 2019 and recommence at 07:00 on 27th December 2019.
